The community helped raise that person or that person’s family. The community contributed toward a good quality of life over the years. Leaving assets in a community when a person passes is a way of thanking the community for what they have been given during their lifetime. It is a way of ensuring that family, employees and customers continue to have a good quality of life for generations to come. Leaving assets to the charities that are near and dear to your heart allows you to leave your legacy and positively influence the future. NC FOUNDATION CONTINUED FROM PAGE 50 The Nebraska Community Foundation launched a campaign called “Five to Thrive.” It is simply asking people to consider leaving just 5 percent of their assets to their community or charity of their choice when they pass. The rightful heirs still receive a majority of the assets, but a small percentage is retained in the community or charity to benefit future generations. While 5 percent doesn’t seem like much, it does add up. It doesn’t have to be 5 percent. Any donation back to the community or charity, large and small, will ensure that our Nebraska communities and charities will continue to grow and thrive. Once wealth leaves a community or our state, it is gone forever, but if it is retained and endowed in a community or charity of our choice, it stays and benefits generations forever. If you are interested in leaving a portion of your assets to benefit the Nebraska beef industry through the Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation or to your community, or charity or charities of your choice, please contact me at janajensen@nebcommfound.org or (308) 588-6299.
