54 NEBRASKA CATTLEMAN April/May 2024 NC DISPATCH Calf for a Cure The 2024 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska, hosted by Scott and Kristin Schiff and their family, will be held June 7-8 on their ranch near Minatare. Like many other Nebraskans, Scott and Kristin have had cancer touch their families and friends. Together, with more than 500 volunteers and an estimated 4,500 attendees, they ask you to join them in providing cancer awareness and raising funds for cancer research in 2024. In addition, the ball will promote beef as part of a healthy diet and celebrate our resiliency and ability to overcome the challenges before us. Learn more at ncba.org/ncba-news. Food Animal Veterinary Scholarship Program Announced Gov. Jim Pillen has announced a new scholarship program for Nebraska students aimed at growing the number of veterinarians serving livestock producers across the state. The Nebraska Elite 11 Veterinarian Program provides financial support to Nebraska students pursuing degrees in animal science or veterinary science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Beef Ambassador Contest The NCW - Consumer Promotion and Education Committee with Nebraska Cattlemen will host the 2024 Nebraska Beef Ambassador Contest June 12 at the Nebraska Game and Parks Visitor Center, Lake McConaughy, Ogallala, beginning at 1 p.m. The competition is targeted toward youth who are passionate about the beef industry. Contestants will also participate in a beef advocacy training workshop to help them increase their beef industry knowledge, learn about current events and develop a network to stay connected. The Nebraska Beef Ambassador Program provides an opportunity for youth ages 14-24 to become spokespersons and future leaders for the beef industry. The two divisions, senior and collegiate, are judged on media interviews and an issues response. The contest is sponsored by Farm Credit Services of America and Purina. Cash prizes will be given to the winners. A scholarship from the Nebraska Cattlemen Research and Education Foundation is given to the collegiate winner.
