Council members will be volunteering at the Nebraska State Fair Beef Pit and will be working on volunteer recruitment. Other agenda items included speaking opportunities with affiliates, along with an idea to host a hiring fair. The Taxation Committee considered and adopted two policy resolutions, one to forward to NCBA for consideration and one for the NC policy book. For consideration to submit to NCBA: WHEREAS cattle producers pay a substantial portion of taxes on their income at capital gains rates; and WHEREAS the transfer of property between generations includes the use of installment sales, which are recognized at capital gains rates; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED Nebraska Cattlemen supports expanding the threshold at which taxable income is charged at those rates and the lowering of capital gains rates themselves. NC Policy Resolutions from Midyear NCF Luncheon The Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation (NCF) Luncheon featured the introduction of the 2024 Retail Value Steer Challenge winners, introduction of students who received scholarships from the NCF and the introduction of the 2024 Beef State Scholarship winner, Weston Svoboda. See details on page 46. Golf Tournament NC members enjoyed a day of warm weather and great golf at the Crandall Creek Golf Club. Tournament results are: Championship Flight • 1st place team: Steve Hanson, Max Hanson, Gunner Walker and Nick Hanson. • 2nd place team: Mike Drinnin, Sam Drinnin, Kelly Terrell and Quentin Dailey. • 3rd place team: Nick Lemmel, Eric Perlinger, Sean Hanson and John McConnell. Area Tours Ogallala is home to much more than Lake McConaughy. Tour participants were treated to an in-depth tour of the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District facility and saw firsthand the power of water; a stop at the Second Chapter Brewing facility in the old Ogallala library; and a final stop at Ogallala Livestock Auction Market. Each tour stop was informative, interesting, interactive and made more enjoyable by the fellowship between NC members. ~NC~
