46 NEBRASKA CATTLEMAN August 2024 PEERS NCF RECOGNIZES RVSC WINNERS AND SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS The annual Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation (NCF) Retail Value Steer Challenge (RVSC) winners were honored at the Foundation Awards Lunch on June 13 during the Nebraska Cattlemen (NC) Midyear Meeting in North Platte. The RVSC is the primary fundraiser for NCF, with money raised supporting youth and adult educational programs, scholarships, research and infrastructure projects, history preservation and judging teams at Nebraska colleges. The foundation would like to recognize the support of our longtime partner Darr Feedlot of Cozad for administration and feeding the steers. This year marked the 25th year NCF has held the Retail Value Steer Challenge fundraiser with 161 steers donated. The fundraiser’s success is solely due to the generosity of the many donors who have contributed to the RVSC over the years. The foundation recognized a special group of individuals who have donated to all 25 Retail Value Steer Challenges. These donors (and future donors who hit the 25-year donor category) received a relief walnut sculpture plaque designed by Henderson artist Vernon Friesen featuring a bunk line of steers on feed. The first group of 25-year donors recognized were: • Agrow Inc. • Bruntz Farming & Feeding Inc. • Cuming County Feeders Association • Platte River Investments • Frenzen Angus & Polled Herefords • Pony Express Chevrolet • Bill & Barb Rishel • Ron & Nancy Kvols • Wagonhammer Cattle Co. The 2025 Retail Value Steer Challenge will begin this fall. The Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation welcomes steer donations by individuals, businesses, groups of individuals or businesses and NC affiliates. Donors can donate their own steer or purchase one from the foundation. Donors do not have to own the whole steer if they would prefer to only own 1/4, 1/3 or 1/2. To participate in the 2025 Retail Value Steer Challenge or for more information, contact Lee Weide, NCF secretary, at (402) 475-2333 or ncf@necattlemen.org, or Jana Jensen, NCF fundraising coordinator, at (308) 588-6299 or janajensen@ nebcommfound.org.
