62 NEBRASKA CATTLEMAN August 2024 BOOTS ON THE GROUND PEOPLE PLATTE VALLEY CATTLEMEN members tour three area businesses to learn about local agricultural operations. While at Cedar Hill Feedyards, Folken Feedyards and Redstar, attendees learned about the technology, innovation and improvements these operations are utilizing, allowing attendees to weigh the costs and benefits of adding such practices to their own operations. A post-tour function was held at Clay Hills Ag where attendees had steaks and beverages. The annual event raises money for research at the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha, showcases various regions of the state and promotes beef. NC showcased a booth at the event along with four other beef-related organizations and businesses, and current NC Board members volunteered at the booth. Affiliate members volunteered to serve meals to 3,000 consumers at the event, which is part of NEBRASKAland Days. Nearly one ton of beef is prepared and then either served at the seating area or delivered through two drive-through lanes. The event promotes beef to local consumers and raises funds for the affiliate. NEBRASKA CATTLEMEN SANDHILLS AFFILIATE members conclude their summer meeting at Dismal River Club in Mullen. The day began with a golf outing and concluded with a ribeye steak meal and meeting. Nebraska Department of Agriculture Director Sherry Vinton addressed attendees at the event. Affiliate members and local youth handed out steak samples to consumers during the event’s parade. The June Jubilee features live music, parades, dances and a road rally.
