BVS 7.25x4.875 4c-NE Cattleman.indd 1 1/30/24 9:35 AM need to expand our customer base and start offering to finish cattle,” Preston says. “I started learning the finishing cattle side of the industry, and that really helped us get a lot more customers too.” In talking about future plans and challenges, Preston would love to expand, but wants to keep relationships with customers the top priority. “I think what we do is not so much a niche market, but we do what the big guys do on a very intimate level,” Preston says. “We are willing to do whatever a customer would like to do, and that’s made some tremendous relationships with the custom feeders we work with. The expansion plans are all drawn and we are ready to go as soon as I think it makes fiscal sense.” Preston is passionate about the future of the cattle industry and making a difference through his involvement in the Nebraska Cattlemen Young Cattlemen Connections class of 2025 and as president of the York County Cattlemen’s Association. Buying a feedyard at a young age is not an easy feat, and Preston has been asked many times how he made that happen. “Very early on, I had the goal of being successful. I did not know how it was going to be, but once I realized that I wanted to take the shot of being successful in the feeding industry, every choice and decision that I made was solely focused on that goal,” Preston shares. “You’ve got to be ready to work harder than you’ve ever worked in your life because it’ll keep you up at night if you’re not getting it done.” ~NC~ Preston Franzen with his wife, Megan, and son, Stetson.
