Additionally, Power Genetics has worked with the Nebraska BQA program and consulting veterinarian Dr. Shane Terrell (Production Animal Consultation) to develop a feedyard management program that they have begun implementing at their member yards. The feedyard management program is based on BQA standard operating procedures and best management practices. To develop this program, Power Genetics worked through the BQA Feedyard Assessment and developed protocols and record keeping templates that either met or exceeded BQA guidelines, all while meeting the expectations of the company and a member feedyard. In addition to this progressive step, Power Genetics requires the member feedyards that supply 85 percent of their annual marketing to be third-party audited using the U.S. Cattle Industry Feedyard Audit tool. Additionally, 100 percent of their member feedyards are required to complete a second-party BQA Feedyard Assessment every three years.
