Q: What is the message you’d like to send to Nebraska producers? A: Nebraska is special in that we have a very predominate seedstock sector, a very large commercial cow-calf sector, a large fed-cattle sector and a strong packing industry. Any initiative that seeks to increase genetic gain for traits that are profit drivers of our industry helps all of these segments. However, to fully leverage the potential of new technologies and methods requires coordination and communication among the industry segments. The ability to improve the accuracy with which we evaluate seedstock cattle so that we can truly improve the net profit of our commercial enterprises should be important to everyone, regardless of their role in the beef industry.
