54 NEBRASKA CATTLEMAN February 2025 ing the crop production side of the business. Recently, his family expanded into the retail beef market with their Birdwood Beef business, which operates a storefront in North Platte. Star has been a member of the Lincoln County Cattlemen since 2010. He was accepted into the Young Cattlemen’s Connection class of 2024 and, with encouragement from his brother Rob, became more active at the state level. “I look forward to meeting and networking with the great people who make up the Nebraska Cattlemen organization,” Star says. Looking ahead, Star is excited about advancements in technology that benefit producers, such as improved data tracking and real-time information within the production cycle. However, he is concerned about the increasing pressure on producers to adopt sustainability and carbon credit-based programs driven by technological advancements. In his free time, Star enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. They enjoy attending their kids’ sporting events and spending summers at the lake, hunting and fishing. Star encourages others to get involved with Nebraska Cattlemen, highlighting the benefits of having a voice in the industry. “The Nebraska Cattlemen affords you the ability to be part of the discussion on topics and policies that directly affect producers and our way of life,” he says. Frank Utter, Brewster Brand and Property Rights Committee Vice Chair Frank Utter serves as NC Brand and Property Rights Committee vice chair. He first got involved with Nebraska Cattlemen about 15 years ago when he was encouraged to join the Sandhills Affiliate and serve on its board to help boost membership and participation. Utter went on to serve as affiliate president for four years. Over the years, he has also held leadership roles, including CowCalf Council chair. In his new role, Utter is eager to strengthen existing relationships, build new ones and bring a unique perspective to the table. “Having the opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and make new ones, as well as being able to bring a somewhat different perspective to issues from my time as a brand inspector and a producer is what I most look forward to,” he says.
