Taxation Commi ee In the Taxation Committee, Kent Bacus, NCBA executive director of government affairs, presented on federal tax issues, the makeup of the new Congress, expected changes with a new administration and the Corporate Transparency Act. He also detailed NCBA’s policy priorities at the federal level. The second speaker was Kenny Zoeller, director of the Policy Research Office for Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen. Zoeller took a deep dive into property taxes, specifically as they relate to K-12 education funding and the historical trends, and where we may see policy changes in the upcoming legislature. Zoeller explained certain policy changes over the last 25 years that changed Tax Equity and Educational Opportunities Support Act (TEEOSA) funding to public schools and where they may be headed in the future. NCW Consumer Promotions and Education Commi ee The NCW Consumer Promotions and Education Committee continues to work with the Nebraska Beef Council and the Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation on promotion and educational materials. Mitch Rippe with the Nebraska Beef Council gave an update on several current programs that Beef Council staff are working on. NC Career Fair More than 70 high school and college students attended the Nebraska Cattlemen Career Fair, which was sponsored by 2024 NC ANNUAL CONVENTION RECAP CONTINUED FROM PAGE 74 SweetBran. Students met with vendors in the sold-out trade show to learn about internship and job opportunities. In addition to networking with key industry stakeholders, students were able to get free headshots taken and heard from a panel of speakers about tips for acquiring internships. Annual Business Meeting Friday morning began with the popular market report presentation from Jeff Stolle, NC vice president of marketing, followed by the annual business meeting. All NC councils and committees presented reports on their respective business meetings and proposed resolutions and policy statements, followed by discussion and votes on all by members in attendance. NC members approved 92 resolutions and policy statements that were new, renewed or modified in the required review of the odd-year policies. ~NC~ Convention is always a good time to catch up with friends, including, left to right, Mark Goes, Mike Boehm, Patty Goes, Barb Rishel and Bill Rishel. The Annual Awards Banquet brings together friends, left to right, Chuck Graff, Jim Ramm, Dean Wilken and Lee Quick.
