66 NEBRASKA CATTLEMAN February 2026 of Fisher’s statistical breakthroughs include log transformation, maximum likelihood estimation, neutral theory of molecular evolution, random effects model and Fisher’s fundamental theorem of natural selection. These massive mathematical computations were done by Fisher using nothing more than a mechanical adding machine. It was based on these statistical methods that modern quantitative genetic models could be built. Fisher ultimately joined the faculty at Cambridge as the Balfour Chair of Genetics. Fisher is credited with seven books and more than 400 academic papers. The other British scientist, Haldane, used a separate mathematical approach to quantify population genetics and evolution, which served as proofs for Mendel’s and Robert Bakewell (1725-1795) Charles Darwin (1809-1882) Rev.
