Property taxes are not the only issue we deal with at the state level. I mentioned education, and this important area goes hand-in-glove with property taxes because it takes the lion’s share of our property tax dollars. Brand and property rights is another area that continues to be at the forefront. We’ve had bills that we had to take positions on in the Natural Resources and Environment Committee as well as Marketing and Commerce. Though we at NC have separated things by committee, every bill or issue is somehow linked to others. Thus, it is important that we see a high level of commitment and engagement by not only membership but especially board members! I’ve mentioned quite a few things that we will have on our plate in the coming year(s) that affect the cattle business. One could be overwhelmed if we dwell on them too long. Fortunately, these issues aren’t new to us nor have they just appeared in recent days or months. Many of the things I have mentioned have been ongoing for some time and many of us have been engaged as well as those who came before us to fight the good fight. Your officer team and NC staff have been and will continue to be engaged. We pride ourselves on being a grassroots, policy-driven organization. This doesn’t just happen. Those who have come before us have set in motion a powerful force to become the premier agricultural influence in Nebraska as well as nationally. It is our charge to continue this legacy. I urge each of you who claims to be a cattleman or cattle woman to do what you can in 2025 to help mold and shape the future of the beef industry and agriculture. We all have benefited tremendously from those who “dug the wells that we drink from and created the shade we sit in.” Now, it is up to us to dig wells and plant trees for those who come after. ~NC~ INSIGHTS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 8 MARKETPLACE Grand Island (800) 652-9381 Lexington (800) 652-9334 Palisade (800) 652-9320 dead stock removal service www.darpro.com 1 COLUMN X 2” Black & white Nebraska Cattleman Darr Feedlot January 2023 1-800-682-4874 ▪ (402) 376-3611 Valentine Livestock Auction Upcoming Sales: Thurs., Jan. 2 - No Sale Happy New Year!
