These days, ranch brands also serve as a mark of origin, a stamp of approval, a flourish of pride, a statement of promise and, ultimately, proof of impact. When Bill and Barb Rishel moved their family from New York to Nebraska, a state that requires brands to distinguish ownership of their cattle, a great amount of thought was given to what the Rishel brand would look like. An image in Bill’s mind of a bighorn sheep signified to him “trophy class.” It’s interesting to note that, cross-culturally, the noble bighorn symbolizes strength, resilience and courage and a grounding force that provides roots for values and beliefs. In 1975, an original brand was designed to represent a recognizable superior quality of craftsmanship in Angus cattle – trophy class. The brand set the bar at the highest level for Rishel Angus’ vision and goals. It focused and grounded a mission statement that would encompass service to the entire beef chain, from seedstock breeders to commercial customers to the meat industry to consumers. The Rishel brand speaks to the fulfillment of lifelong commitment to principled, determined, balanced achievement in every aspect of life – family, work and service. us succeed. I will never forget what it felt like to know they were there for us; to know they still believe in us.” Rishel is grateful for his induction into the Saddle & Sirloin Portrait Gallery. “It is a privilege to know that my contributions of time, effort and ideas were vital to improving the lives of my family, community and, most importantly, the beef cattle industry for all producers across the globe. I view this honor as a lifetime achievement award at the highest level of the agricultural industry.” An original oil portrait of Rishel, painted by renowned artist Richard Halstead, was commissioned and framed and was presented at the North American International Livestock Expo in November.
