70 NEBRASKA CATTLEMAN January 2026 Wehrbein Receives NC Hall of Fame Award N a k a o z Ee a e r h p e v c Nebraska Cattlemen (NC) is proud to announce Buck Wehrbein as the 2025 Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame Award recipient for his exemplary leadership and service to the beef cattle industry. The Hall of Fame Award is the highest honor Nebraska Cattlemen can give one of its members. The Nominations Committee selects members based on their contribution to the beef industry, contributions to the Nebraska Cattlemen organization and civic contributions and their cattle business accomplishments. “From Nebraska to NCBA, Buck Wehrbein has been a champion for the beef cattle industry wherever he goes,” says NC Executive Vice President Laura Field. “He has served his fellow producers with the highest character and his leading-by-example spirit makes him most deserving of inclusion in the Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame.” Wehrbein grew up in eastern Nebraska on a farm, raising cattle, hogs and chickens. He has managed custom feedlots in Nebraska and Texas since 1984 while feeding his own cattle since 1980. He worked outside Amarillo on a custom feedlot for many years before moving back to Nebraska. During his life, Wehrbein has been active in the beef industry, serving on boards and committees for various state and national beef cattle industry organizations, including serving as chair of the Federation of State Beef Councils and as a board member for the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Nebraska Cattlemen and U.S. Meat Export Federation. He has served as both chairman and treasurer for the Nebraska Beef Council and served on the Beef Promotion Operating Committee. In 2024, Wehrbein was elected president-elect of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA). Prior to that, Wehrbein served as NCBA vice president, policy division chair and policy division vice chair. On Feb. 6, 2025, Wehrbein became NCBA president. As NCBA president, Wehrbein had the opportunity to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry to share an update on policy priorities for the American cattle industry. Wehrbein and his wife, Sandy, have been married for 53 years and have three children (two living), seven grandchildren (six living) and 11 great-grandchildren (10 living). From running a multi-generational feedyard to advocating for producers, Wehrbein has been committed to protecting the future of beef production and supporting cattlemen and women nationwide.
