52 NEBRASKA CATTLEMAN March 2025 modities Pilot Project. During the next few years, they plan to enroll approximately 500 producers across 19 states in this project. The grant covers several focus areas including virtual fencing, grazing and rangeland management, wetlands restoration, prairie restoration, feed management and livestock genetic improvement. Trust In Food has partnered with American Breeders Service (ABS). This component of the grant involves genetic interventions for terminal beef production. The goal is to use mating plans with both terminal and maternal genetics administered through AI to produce both replacement heifers and feeder animals from the same calf crop. By following these animals through the supply chain from birth to harvest, a lifecycle assessment will estimate GHG emissions reductions achieved through climate-smart genetics per unit of carcass weight. The Future of Technology in Beef Production Fewer than 20 years ago we began incorporating genomic data into our genetic evaluations, thanks to advancements that reduced the cost of genomic testing. At the time, Ignacy Misztal, Ph.D., from the University of Georgia noted that the question would shift from whether to use genomic information to how to use it. There’s no doubt that upcoming innovations will revolutionize agriculture and beef production. However, new technologies often encounter resistance from producers who prefer traditional methods. The USDA pilot project will measure GHG benefits while enhancing soil health and productivity on American farms and ranches. This initiative will also help build networks among producers and industry, promoting the adoption of new practices and technologies. ~NC~ LEVERAGING GENETICS AND TECHNOLOGY AS SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES CONTINUED FROM PAGE 50 further boost AI’s effectiveness. However, AI requires specialized equipment, facilities and trained personnel, which can be barriers for some producers. USDA Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has invested more than $3 billion in 135 pilot projects across 55 U.S. states and territories through Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities. Trust In Food, a Farm Journal initiative, received one of these grants, amounting to $40 million, for the Connected Ag Climate-Smart ComSELLING GENETIC ADVANTAGED FEED EFFICIENT BULLS STACKED WITH PERFORMANCE WEBO Angus TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2025 • AT THE RANCH • LUSK, WY 8 miles east on Hwy. 20 to Node, then 0.6 miles south on Pfister Rd.
