Silages and High Moisture Corn • Visual comparisons showing what meaningful amounts of protein look like in common foods • Clear explanations of protein needs across life stages • The role of complete, high-quality protein sources – like beef – in supporting muscle and overall health These tools were designed to fit into short appointments and busy practices where concise visuals and straightforward explanations make a difference. WHAT MADE THIS APPROACH INNOVATIVE Innovation isn’t always about doing something new – it’s about doing something effective. This program recognized that physicians don’t need more headlines; they need practical resources they trust. By focusing on visuals, quantification and relevance to current patient needs – such as supporting older adults or patients using GLP-1 medications – the toolkit met healthcare professionals where they are. Importantly, the materials did not promote extremes or dismiss other protein sources. They focused on balance, portion size and how beef fits into an overall healthy dietary pattern. That tone mattered. It built credibility and encouraged use. THE RESULTS: MEASURABLE AND MEANINGFUL IMPACT Evaluation data from the program demonstrates why this approach was worth the investment. Health professionals overwhelmingly rated the materials as valuable for patient discussions, particularly for patients focused on weight management, satiety and preserving lean muscle. More than nine out of 10 respondents reported increased knowledge about beef’s role in a healthy, balanced diet after reviewing the materials. Confidence followed knowledge. Providers reported feeling better equipped to counsel patients, and their likelihood of recommending beef as part of a balanced diet increased significantly. In fact, 90 percent of surveyed health professionals said they plan to recommend beef more frequently to patients as a result of the program. One result stood out clearly in the evaluation. After reviewing and using the materials, 81 percent of health professionals reported they plan to increase their own personal beef consumption. For clinicians who are trained to rely on evidence and long-standing guidance, that level of personal behavior change is significant. It suggests the materials didn’t simply add information, but helped reframe how beef’s high-quality protein fits into modern nutrition – both for patient care and for everyday eating. That outcome reinforces the value of investing Checkoff dollars in science-based education that earns trust through clarity and relevance. WHAT THIS MEANS FOR NEBRASKA PRODUCERS For Nebraska cattle producers who invest in the Beef Checkoff, this work represents a strategic extension of on-farm innovation. It ensures that the nutritional value of beef is accurately understood by the professionals shaping food decisions every day. Each informed clinician influences hundreds of patients annually, multiplying the impact far beyond the original outreach. “Innovating the Herd” includes protecting and strengthening beef’s role in modern diets. By investing in credible science, practical tools and trusted relationships, Nebraska producers are helping ensure that beef continues to be recognized – not just as a tradition, but as a high-quality protein that meets today’s health needs. That is innovation with lasting impact – rooted in science, respectful of producers and meaningful for the people Nebraska beef ultimately serves. ~NC~ NEBRASKA BEEF COUNCIL CONTINUED FROM PAGE 74
