This barn will also feature a separate cattle handling system, donated by ArrowQuip, that will allow side-by-side studies of cattle handling facilities and methods. An elevated classroom with one-way glass will let students and industry stakeholders observe cattle handling without interfering with the process, and a wall of monitors in the classroom connected to cameras throughout the facility will enhance those observations. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, we can examine different configurations and processes, and observe and measure cattle response. Eventually, we will work with industry to evaluate new products in our commercial-scale facility, too. If a government shutdown happens, supply chain disruptions are likely, Farm Service Administration offices will close, and there will likely be no livestock mandatory reporting. The USDA must decide which services are deemed essential, and we will not know their plans until they make a final decision. If we track history, in 2013 the government shut down for 17 days. During the 2013 shutdown, USDA Market News and LMR were both closed. NC will continue to work with Congress to keep these essential functions funded for cattle producers.
