In partnership with the Nebraska College of Another exciting development is the appointment of Lindsay Waechter-Mead, DVM, as Nebraska’s new Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) coordinator. Many producers know her through her Extension work in livestock systems. In her new role, she will lead statewide training and certification, ensuring Nebraska continues to set the national standard for responsible and sustainable beef production. As the nation’s top commercial cattle-feeding state, Nebraska’s leadership in BQA is essential for maintaining consumer trust in beef and strengthening our global reputation. Our commitment to the next generation of agricultural leaders also remains strong. At this year’s Nebraska State Fair, our Department of Animal Science partnered with youth livestock events to highlight opportunities for students in animal science at UNL. Young Nebraskans learned about the hands-on learning, small classes and world-class faculty who make our program exceptional. Several of those students have already reached out for more information, scheduled visits or begun considering applications. It’s an exciting reminder that early engagement can help shape the next wave of leaders in animal agriculture. Finally, I want to congratulate William H. “Bill” Rishel of North Platte, who will be inducted this fall into the prestigious Saddle and Sirloin Portrait Gallery. Bill has been a tireless advocate for Nebraska agriculture and for our university, and his recognition in this historic gallery is a testament to his lifetime of contributions to the cattle industry. Yes, we face challenges, but Nebraska agriculture is also experiencing tremendous progress, innovation and leadership. From national partnerships to practical tools for producers and from developing the workforce of tomorrow to celebrating leaders who have dedicated their lives to the industry, there is much to be proud of and even more to look forward to. At IANR, we remain steadfast in our mission to strengthen agriculture, natural resources and communities in Nebraska. Thank you for your partnership, your trust and your commitment to this shared future. ~NC~ IANR CONTINUED FROM PAGE 54 Technical Agriculture, UNL has launched “Prime Education: Introduction to Butchery and Meat Processing,” a self-paced online curriculum for anyone interested in a career in the industry.
