They can hold data hostage until the farm or ranch pays a ransom. At a minimum, cyber intelligence will work to steal our technology and research breakthroughs. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE • CONTINUED FROM PAGE 42 The good news is that there are steps we can take to shore up agricultural cybersecurity. As we continue to negotiate the 2023 Farm Bill, agricultural cybersecurity will be one of my top priorities. We need to fully understand our vulnerabilities and create incident response plans that can be carried out immediately. Furthermore, and more broadly than agriculture alone, I passed legislation in the previous Congress that gave responsibility to the Department of Homeland Security to defend our infrastructure and private sector. We found there were seams and the responsibilities were ambiguous, and this needed to be fixed.
