While strong animal husbandry and preparation are always the first line of defense, insurance provides another layer of protection when circumstances change quickly. The importance of coverage is even more personal with youth livestock projects. For many 4-H and FFA families, a show animal is one of the largest investments of the year. The animal also represents responsibility, learning, confidence and family time. Insurance cannot replace the bond that a young exhibitor builds with an animal. My farm background has taught me that livestock are never just numbers on a balance sheet. They represent genetics, daily work, family commitment and future opportunity.
