82 NEBRASKA CATTLEMAN January 2024 SPECIAL TO THIS ISSUE McClymont Receives Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame Award Pete McClymont received the 2023 Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame award for his lifetime of service to Nebraska’s beef cattle industry Dec. 7 in Kearney. Presented during the Annual Nebraska Cattlemen Convention and Trade Show, the Hall of Fame Award is the highest honor that the Nebraska Cattlemen can give to one of its members. The Nominations Committee selects members based on their contribution to the beef industry, contribution to the Nebraska Cattlemen (NC) organization, community and civic contributions, and their cattle business accomplishments. “Pete McClymont has always lived and breathed Nebraska Cattlemen. His dedication to our membership, staff and board of directors is second to none and his impact on our organization cannot be overstated,” says NC Executive Vice President Laura Field. “We are proud for Pete McClymont to join the Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame and we are grateful for his leadership.” McClymont’s involvement with NC spans more than a quarter of a century and includes service to NC as a volunteer at the affiliate and state levels, employment with NC in two different staff positions and, last but not least, engagement as a member of Nebraska Cattlemen and the livestock feeding industry virtually his entire life. McClymont is a native of Holdrege, where his family owns a diversified farming operation including a feedlot, stocker operation and cow-calf operation. In addition to producing beef cattle, the McClymonts also farm corn and soybeans. During his time working at the family farm, McClymont primarily managed the feedlot. Following his graduation from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, McClymont became an active member of the Phelps-Gosper Livestock Association, Nebraska Cattlemen and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. McClymont’s passion for beef cattle production and advocating for producer interests led him to serve on the NC Board of Directors. He first served on the board in 1996 and held various NC leadership positions before being nominated and then elected to an NC officer position in 2003. He served as NC president in 2006. Upon concluding his service on the board of directors, he became NC vice president of legislative affairs in January 2007. After serving in that role for more than six years, he was hired as NC executive vice president in July 2013. After more than two decades of service to Nebraska Cattlemen, McClymond retired at the end of February 2023. “Pete is so deserving of this award because of all he’s done for this association. He bleeds Nebraska Cattlemen,” says Mike Drinnin, former NC president. “He has given so much of his time to this association. He gave to NC while working at his feedlot operation in Holdrege, then gave more time as a leader and then staff person – it just never ended. His total devotion to this industry is second to none.” Nebraska Cattlemen and its members are grateful for the many years McClymont has spent serving Nebraska Cattlemen members and working to keep Nebraska’s beef cattle industry prosperous. Congratulations on this well-deserved award. ~NC~ Pete McClymont with his family after receiving the Nebraska Cattlemen Hall of Fame award.
