We have appreciated their leadership not only on the state level but also on the national side via committee leadership, appointments and genuine volunteerism. Each of them has brought a wealth of knowledge and foresight to the NBC Board and will truly be missed. In addition, June Loseke is up for re-election in her district and is eligible to seek a second term. The election process takes up a good portion of the calendar year with the “call for candidates” being done at the January NBC meeting. Starting Feb. 1, producers in the Districts of 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 (see map on page 92) who are at least 21 years of age, have owned cattle in Nebraska for the previous five years, and are registered voters in a county in their district will be working on getting a petition signed by at least 100 qualified voters in their district so that they can then be put on the ballot. To be considered a qualified voter, a person must be at least 18 years of age, a registered voter in a county in the district and must have bought or sold cattle in the previous calendar year. Once candidate packets are sent in by June 15, they are then verified by a third-party accountant, and districts with a contested election will start the pre-certification process for producers to register to vote. All the details and a timeline of the election process can be found on our website at nebeef.org under the Cattlemen’s Corner. It might seem like a big undertaking or a significant process to elect NBC Board members, but it’s important to note that the responsibilities of our board are great. They are tasked with overseeing the Beef Checkoff here in Nebraska, which includes making funding decisions for all checkoff programs in addition to national leadership responsibilities. Last, we are always looking for ways to connect with producers and let them know how their checkoff investments are being used here in Nebraska, nationally and internationally. If your organization, county affiliate or region are holding a meeting and would like to hear from our staff about checkoff programs and activities, please don’t hesitate to contact our office; we would appreciate the opportunity to visit with you! Thank you for all you do to raise beef. It’s an honor for us to interface with the consumer on your behalf and share the message of delicious, nutritious BEEF! ~NC~ NEBRASKA BEEF COUNCIL UPDATE CONTINUED FROM PAGE 94 We are always looking for ways to connect with producers and let them know how their checkoff investments are being used here in Nebraska, nationally and internationally. 1 COLUMN X 3” Black & White Nebraska Cattleman Valentine Livestock Auc Jan. 2024 1-800-682-4874 ▪ (402) 376-3611 Valentine Livestock Auction Upcoming Sales: Thurs., Jan. 4 Special Feeder Sale (Breedable Heifers) Thurs., Jan. 11 Special Feeder Sale (Breedable Heifers) Thurs., Jan. 18 Special Bred Female Sale & Diamond Lazy J Bull Sale Thurs., Jan. 25 Special Feeder Sale www.valentinelivestock.net
